Application Of Medium Carbon Ferro Chrome

In steel production, medium-carbon ferrochrome is mainly used in the production of medium- and low-carbon structural steels, carburised steels, and in the manufacture of wear-resistant parts such as gears, high-pressure blower blades and valve plates. These steels are usually used to manufacture high-strength, high-hardness mechanical parts to meet the needs of a variety of industrial sectors

In addition, medium-carbon ferrochrome can be used as an additive to cast iron to improve its wear resistance and increase its hardness, as well as to give it good heat resistance. In the aerospace industry, medium-carbon ferrochrome can be used to manufacture high-performance parts such as aircraft components and satellite parts.

Medium Carbon Ferrochrome Production

The production process of medium carbon ferrochrome consists of two main methods: the top-blown oxygen converter method and the bottom-blown oxygen converter method.

Top-Blown Oxygen Converter Method: By blowing high pressure oxygen from the top of the converter, it enhances the steel making process and improves the stirring of the molten pool. Raw materials include molten iron, scrap and ferroalloys. This method requires no additional energy and relies on the physical heat of the molten iron itself and the chemical reaction between the molten iron components to generate heat. According to the refractory material can be divided into acid and alkaline; according to the part of blowing gas there are top blowing, bottom blowing and side blowing; according to the type of blowing gas is divided into air converter and oxygen converter. China primarily adopts the top-blown converter method.

Bottom-Blown Oxygen Converter Method: In this method, oxygen is blown in from the bottom of the furnace. The bottom-blowing method also uses molten iron, scrap and ferroalloys as the main raw materials. Although the bottom-blowing method can overcome some of the disadvantages of the top-blowing method, it requires cleaning with inert gas after stopping the blowing. Different types of bottom-blowing converters have shown many advantages in actual production.
